Hands hands hands

My extended practice team asked me how I draw hands, while I'm no expert and I draw hands in a certain style, I do have a few tricks up my sleeve...

I use a lot of these breakdown techniques to draw and animate hands across my modules, especially using reference:

Hot Potato

Before breaking off for the summer holidays, I wanted to collab with a bunch of my friends, so I created a simple animation of a potato and the main character. The concept was based on an actual hot potato so the next frame of this animation would be done by a different artist. I used to block out the simple animation then TVPaint to simplify it further:

I then allocated frames to anyone who was interested (of course, I made an elaborate spreadsheet), but unfortunately, not everyone managed to make a frame before summer. So I took it upon myself to finish this. I used the frames as a warm-up exercise to get my creative juices flowing, while also experimenting with art styles. Eventually, I managed to finish it!

(Special thanks to Ava, Cameron, Carla, Damo, Eleni, and Rory for collaborating with me on this!)

Moom

I've been working with Moom outside of the studio tasks. I find 3D animation quite refreshing, it has more to offer than I expected. I'm getting the hang of the commands and processes with practice, so here's Moom dancing the classic Fortnite dance move.

Hands

Practising how to draw hands in the style of Jamie Hewlett.
[Hands are referenced from various works of Jamie Hewlett.]

Crazy King

Was watching documentaries on the death penalty when someone compared the electric chair to a throne. Had to do a little something...

There I was taking a power nap, when my friends decided to capture it. BOOM! Instant meme.

I approve

But 'twas not enough. Hali and Tisa then went on to animate it to the song Shooting Stars*, on After Effects, and I pitched in too!

*Shooting Stars is a meme that exploded in popularity in 2017. It usually involves a person falling, edited into random places such as space or in the bloodstream.

The constant battle within the confines of my mind.
The summary of the two is balance.

The two sides reflect heavily on why I want to do animation so bad; Chaos, the side that has the enthusiasm to animate on ones, works well in a team and can churn out ideas rapidly, and Order, the calm, collected side that plans, storyboards, and just wants to work alone.
You might be able to guess my zodiac sign...
